Traveling Abroad : Air Travel (US to Germany)

So, what better way of starting off this blog than with the way that I started my adventure: air travel. When I got on the plane to come here back in August it was the first time that I've ever been on a plane, and I won't lie, I was pretty nervous. I was completely alone and I was also leaving the States for the first time. However, it turned out to be a lot easier than I thought.

The exchange program that I'm in provided me my own travel agent and he took care of my plane ticket, for some odd reason American students don't need a visa to study in Germany, I just had to check into an immigration office, but I digress. So, I can't say much when it comes to actually buying a ticket. What I can say though is, and this'll make me sound stupid to any person who has flown before, an itinerary is not a ticket. Seriously, I got to the airport and the lady from Delta, my airline, had to print my tickets out for me. She was awesome, but she probably thought that I was a complete moron. Security is a breeze just listen to what they tell you to do, and be prepared it might take a while depending one where you are. Next is boarding which is also easy, and once again just follow directions.

Now, all of my flights were either early or on time so I never really had to rush to my gates until I got to Amsterdam. I went through customs there and luckily I was in the fast lane because my flight was so soon, because the other lines looked like they were taking forever. Customs are really easy too they might ask you a couple of questions like, "Where are you traveling to?", and other things like that and then you go through a security check point again. Remember all electronics have to be put in separate bins, even phones.

My last flight was very easy, I met an old Dutch lady who lives in Hamburg on it and when we landed she got me a cart for my suitcases and helped me find the spot where I was going to meet my host family. She was so sweet.

That's the end of my flying experience, and I found it to be much easier than I thought. If you want to go anywhere, but you're worried about flying, don't be. It's really simple and the worst part is jet lag, and even then nobody feels energized after a flight. If you guys have any questions for me for future posts ask away down in the comment section. Until then See you guys later.
